Our Story

The Boutrous Companies was founded in 1982 by Edward T. Boutrous, as developers and managers of neighborhood shopping centers and single tenant office/commercial buildings throughout Southeastern Michigan. Our clients include The Kroger Company, Hallmark Cards, DTE Energy, ACE Hardware, Office Depot, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Advance Auto, Art Van Pure Sleep, Weight Watchers, Planet Fitness and Walgreens.

The Boutrous Companies takes pride in managing and maintaining its shopping centers to the highest level, in turn giving the communities in which they are located something they too can be proud of, as well as offering excellent retail opportunities for local, regional or national tenants.

In recent years, The Boutrous Companies primary focus has been to serve as a Preferred Developer for The Kroger Co. of Michigan. These tasks begin with site location and carry through the entire development process. Boutrous has successfully located Kroger in multiple locations, overcoming a myriad of municipal and development challenges.

The Boutrous Companies remains involved in the community and is committed to the continued economic rebirth of Michigan. To that end the company continues to seek out development opportunities in its home state.

Edward T.Boutrous

Ed Boutrous began his career in real estate in 1969. He sold several major parcels of land in Troy, Michigan including the Kelly Services Headquarters and Troy Place Office Center. In 1974, Mr. Boutrous formed the Harvard Development Company with a partner, building their first Kroger shopping center in Canton Township, Michigan. In 1982, he founded The Boutrous Companies who celebrated its 37th anniversary in 2019. His company has developed numerous retail shopping centers, as well as apartments and single tenant properties. Clients served over the years include Kroger, Office Depot, Walgreens and Rite Aid Pharmacies, Detroit Edison, Art Van, ACE Hardware, Hallmark Gold Crown, Planet Fitness, Advance Auto to name a few.

Mr. Boutrous was raised in Detroit, and has remained involved in the community. He and his wife, Pam, are committed to the regeneration of Michigan, and to the provision of food, shelter, healthcare, and higher education to those in need. As an alumnus of the University of Detroit, he served on the University of Detroit Commission on the Future College of Architecture Task Force. Mr. Boutrous is active in the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, is a member of the Solanus Casey Center Cabinet, served as co-chair of the SOCK fundraising dinner for more than 25 years and was recognized with the prestigious Aldo Mastro Leadership Award for his tireless efforts. Ed is also a retired Board Member of South Oakland Shelter where he was named volunteer of the year in 2011; he served for many years as a Trustee at Kensington Academy and was a Founding Architect of the institution; and is past President of the McCauley Club, a major donor for St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital-Oakland.

He graduated from the University of Detroit, Magma Cum Laude, with a B.S. in Finance, and received an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School in 1969. Mr. Boutrous is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and a licensed Michigan Real Estate Broker.

Thomas A.Boutrous

Tom Boutrous joined the Boutrous Companies in 2015 after working over 20 years in the commercial real estate brokerage industry. Before joining the Company, Tom was an Associate Broker and Principal at Lee and Associates, where he focused on both landlord and tenant representation, retail /industrial leasing, and acquisitions/ dispositions of both vacant land and investment properties. He has been privileged to serve numerous clients including the Kroger Co. of Michigan and Volkswagen Group of America.

Tom has a wide range of duties in his day-to-day role at the Boutrous Companies. He is actively involved in overseeing and managing the Company’s existing real estate portfolio, which includes the maintenance, marketing and management of each property; the coordination and execution of the maintenance contracts; tenant lease renewals, and new tenant build-outs. Tom also handles the potential operation/redevelopment of the firm’s existing portfolio, the due diligence of any potential new development (infill or redevelopment sites), and the pre-leasing and construction services.

Tom Boutrous is a graduate of Villanova University with a BS in Business Economics, and was a four year scholarship athlete for the Men’s Varsity Tennis team. He is also an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Michigan Commercial Board of Realtors (CBOR). Tom resides in Birmingham with his wife, Annie, and sons, Rocco and Dillon.
